Lane Closure Will Expedite Bridge Work and Provide Safe Working Conditions for Crews

(October 21, 2009) – This morning, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is closing the right lane along the southbound US 13 bridge (Ocean Highway) over Wagram Creek near the Maryland/Virginia border in Worcester County.  SHA crews are working on the bridge and the closure provides a safe work zone for crews, as well as motorists.  Following the work under the right lane of the bridge, crews will close the left lane.

SHA is installing protective metal sleeves around bridge’s timber pilings.  Crews are working from dawn to dusk to initiate timely installation.  The goal is to open all lanes to traffic by the end of November, weather permitting.  The average daily traffic volume along US 13 is approximately 19,000 vehicles daily.  SHA is using signs and arrows boards to guide motorists through the work zone.

PDI Sheetz of Linthicum is performing the work. SHA thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation and reminds them to use caution when driving the detour route.

“Think Orange” – reduce speeds and be attentive as you drive through all work zones.  For more information on State-maintained roadways in Worcester County, customers may call SHA’s District 1 office at 1-800-825-4742 or 410-677-4000.
