Starting Monday, Motorists Can Expect Daytime Lane Closures, Flagging Operations During Projects
(May 30, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is beginning a pavement improvement project on MD 702 (Southeast Freeway) in eastern Baltimore County next week. The work will be complete by mid-summer, weather permitting.
Beginning Monday, June 3, contractor crews will begin to mill, patch and resurface approximately one-mile of MD 702 between Middleborough Road and Back River Neck Road, including the roundabout at Hyde Park Road. Motorists can first expect temporary daytime lane closures for paving work on the mainline of MD 702 with flagging operations on weekdays, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday – Friday.
Once the mainlines of MD 702 work is complete, there will be overnight work to resurface the roundabout at Hyde Park Road with temporary detours of the roundabout between 8 p.m.-5 a.m. the next morning, Sunday through Thursday. At night, all travelers will be diverted away from the MD 702/Hyde Park Road roundabout at the following intersections on the approaches to the roundabout:
- MD 702 at Middleborough Road
- MD 702 at Turkey Point Road
- Hyde Park Road at Back River Neck Road
- Hyde Park Road at S. Marlyn Avenue
The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium, will use portable digital message boards to advise travelers of upcoming work and detours and will use temporary traffic signs, barrels and cones to guide travelers through the work zone and detour routes.
The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
