Long-Term Closure and Detour of Half-Mile Section of MD 24 Begins 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 28; Drivers Should Plan Extra Drive Time
(May 21, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is continuing construction on a section of
MD 24 (Rocks Road) between south of Sharon Road and north of Ferncliff Lane near Rocks State Park in Harford County as part of a slope stabilization project. This half-mile section of MD 24 will be temporarily closed to through traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, and a posted detour will be in effect through project completion in late fall 2024. Only local traffic will be permitted within the work zone.
The project will stabilize embankments and protect the roadway against erosion. Contractor crews will place diversion devices in the stream to shift a section of Deer Creek about 30 feet to the east and will reconstruct a section of MD 24. The project also includes resurfacing, landscaping and installation of a new guardrail along the northbound side of MD 24.
