(January 6, 2024) – The Maryland State Highway Administration has completed the repairs to the MD 198 (Laurel Fort Meade Road) bridge over the Little Patuxent River near Fort Meade. The bridge was closed on January 3 after it was discovered that soil underneath the approach road had eroded away.

The erosion, or “washout,” was caused by a log jam of debris buildup. Repairs were initially expected to take up to two weeks but were able to be completed much sooner.

The State Highway Administration appreciates the patience of the affected drivers and strives to maintain a world-class transportation system.
