Overnight Project Requires Single-Lane Closure During Work Hours

(November 21, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will improve the pavement on US 1 (Washington Blvd) between MD 32 (Patuxent Freeway) and MD 175 (Jessup Rd.) on Monday, November 27. The three-mile project should be complete by mid-December, weather permitting.

Starting at 8 p.m. Monday, crews will close one travel lane to begin the project. Work will take place Sundays through Thursdays 8 p.m.-5 a.m. the following morning. The project includes the ramps at the US 1 and MD 32 interchange. Only one ramp will be closed overnight. The detour will direct motorists to the next exit on MD 32 or US 1 to turn around and access another exit ramp at the interchange.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Allan Myers, Inc. of Jessup, will use electronic signs, barrels, and cones to alert motorists about the single-lane closure and guide them through the work zone or detour.

The State Highway Administration understands that resurfacing projects are an inconvenience but are necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
