Project Made Possible Through Stimulus Funding
(September 28, 2009) – This week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin resurfacing and safety improvements on five roads throughout northern Prince George’s County. Weather permitting, the project should be complete summer 2010.
The $4.6 million project also includes milling and grinding the existing road surfaces and installing new pavement markings. Roadways included in this project are:
• MD 450 (Annapolis Road) between Peace Cross and Bladensburg Elementary School, a total of one mile;
• US 1 (Baltimore Avenue) between 38th Street and Hamilton Street, a total of 3.5 miles;
• MD 501 (Chillum Road) between MD 212 (Riggs Road) and MD 500 (Queens Chapel Road, a total of 3.5 miles;
• MD 197 (Laurel Bowie Road) between Rustic Hill Drive and Old Laurel Bowie Road); a total of 5.5 miles; and
• MD 198 (Sandy Spring Road) between I-95 and Van Dusen Road, a total of two miles.
Crews may need to close one lane and a shoulder on these roads, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and overnight Monday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
SHA awarded the contract to American Infrastructure, Inc. Those who have questions about traffic operations along MD 450, US 1, or other state numbered routes in Prince George’s County may call SHA’s District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737. SHA reminds all drivers to buckle up, obey posted speed limits, think orange, and stay alert in the work zone.
This project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland. Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs. Follow the delivery of these projects at
