STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TEMPORARILY CLOSES SECTION OF MD 273 IN RISING SUN FOR EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE TODAY

MD 273 Temporarily Closed Until Friday, October 2; Detours in Place

(September 24, 2009) – Today, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will close MD 273 (Rising Sun Road/Main Street) between     MD 276 (Jacob Tome Memorial Highway) and Hopewell Road in Rising Sun, Cecil County for emergency maintenance. Weather permitting, the road will reopen by Friday, October 2.
 
SHA crews discovered a damaged underground pipe on Main Street that must be removed and replaced.  After those repairs are completed, crews will repave and restripe Main Street.

SHA has closed MD 273 today so crews can begin working throughout the day and night on the pipe replacement project and road repair. Motorists will be directed to local detour routes as follows:
• Eastbound MD 273:  Take MD 276 to US 1(Conowingo Road) to Sylmar Road and back to MD 273;
• Westbound MD 273:  Take Sylmar Road to US 1 to MD 276  and back to MD 273;
• Northbound MD 276: Motorists will continue north along MD 276 past MD 273 to US 1 to Sylmar Road and back to MD 273; and
• Truck Detour:  Trucks will use MD 272 (Northeast Road) to southbound I-95 to MD 222 (Bainbridge Road) to MD 275 (Perrylawn Drive) to MD 276 and back to MD 273.
