***TRAFFIC ALERT*** STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO RESURFACE US 1 (WASHINGTON BOULEVARD) APPROACHES TO NEW BRIDGE OVER CSX RAILWAY IN BALTIMORE COUNTY

​(September 25, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will resurface US 1 (Washington Boulevard) between just north of Guinness Open Gate entrance to north of Clarke Boulevard and to the US 1/US1 Alternate ramp beginning tonight, September 25. Weather permitting, the resurfacing work should be complete by Tuesday morning, October 3.  

To expedite the work, crews will initiate several closures and detours at the US 1 at the bridge over the CSX Railway tracks. During the overnight closures, motorists will be directed to follow the pre-set detour routes installed for the bridge project.   

The schedule and detour route are as follows: 

Monday night, September 25:  

Overnight US 1 bridge closure and detour from 9 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday.  

Tuesday night, September 26: 

The bridge will be open with overnight closures and local detours of two ramps: the ramp from northbound US 1 Alternate (Washington Boulevard) to I-695 to northbound US 1 (Southwestern Boulevard) and the ramp from southbound US 1 to southbound US 1 Alternate (Washington Boulevard) from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday.
   
Wednesday, September 27: 

Overnight bridge closure and detour from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning

Thursday, September 28:

Overnight bridge closure and detour from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning
  
Sunday, October 1:
 
Overnight bridge closure and detour from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning  

Monday, October 2: 

Bridge open; Overnight Closure/Detour The bridge will be open, but drivers can expect an overnight closure and detour of two ramps -- the ramp from northbound Washington Boulevard (US 1 Alternate to I-695) to northbound Southwestern Boulevard and the ramp from southbound Southwestern Boulevard to southbound Washington Boulevard 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.
  
Clarke Boulevard at southbound US 1 remains closed for construction work until this fall. Contractor Lane Construction, Inc. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Lane Construction, Inc. of Glen Burnie is handling, will use arrow boards, detour signs and barrels to safely guide drivers through the bridgework zone. The entire project, which is anticipated is expected to be completed in late fall, weather permitting.
  
The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable highway system. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
