STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION COMPLETES INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ON MD 140 IN CARROLL COUNTY

​Widened Road, New Turn Lanes Provide Enhanced Safety for Bicyclists, Motorists 

(September 25, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has completed a $4.9 million project on MD 140 (Taneytown Pike) at Mayberry Road near Westminster in Carroll County.  

Safety improvements included: 

  • roadway widening to extend left-turn lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions; 
  • new deceleration/right-turn lanes in both directions; 
  • enhanced shoulders to better accommodate bike lanes and improve safety: 
  • installation of warning lights to alert motorists of the traffic signal; and 
  • area drainage improvements.

Construction of this project began in spring 2022 and was completed in late 2023. Contractor Kibler Construction Company Inc., of Finksburg, performed the work. Learn more about the project by clicking here.  

The State Highway Administration understands road work can be an inconvenience for some motorists but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable roadway network. ​
