Widened Road, New Turn Lanes Provide Enhanced Safety for Bicyclists, Motorists
(September 25, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has completed a $4.9 million project on MD 140 (Taneytown Pike) at Mayberry Road near Westminster in Carroll County.
Safety improvements included:
- roadway widening to extend left-turn lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions;
- new deceleration/right-turn lanes in both directions;
- enhanced shoulders to better accommodate bike lanes and improve safety:
- installation of warning lights to alert motorists of the traffic signal; and
- area drainage improvements.
