Motorists Can Expect Overnight Single, Double and Triple-Lane Closures; Drivers Are Strongly Encouraged to Use Alternate Routes

(September 12, 2023) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will conduct repair work on the outer loop (northbound) I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) bridge over Ritchie Marlboro Road in Largo beginning Saturday, September 16. The project is expected be complete by September 20, weather permitting.

Starting 9 p.m. Saturday, crews will begin making concrete repairs to the bridge abutments. Drivers can expect a triple-lane closure and expect delays during the work. All lanes will reopen by 9 a.m. Sunday.

Crews will also work Sunday evening through Wednesday morning, September 20. Drivers can expect a single-lane closure at 8 p.m., a double-lane closure at 9 p.m. and triple-lane closures beginning at 12 a.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning.  Motorists should consider alternate routes such as US 301 (Crain Highway) to MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) and back to I-95/I-495.

The State Highway Administration understands the closures will inconvenience some travelers and asks all motorists to stay patient and be alert as you pass through the work zone. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Marksmen Construction, LLC. of Baltimore, will use arrow boards, signs, cones, and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone.

Customers who have questions may contact the MDOT SHA District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
