One Lane of the Two-Lane Ramp to Close; Drivers Should Plan for Extra Travel Time

August 23, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will repair deteriorated concrete pavement sections on the northbound I-97 ramp to westbound I-695 (Baltimore Beltway/Towson) in northern Anne Arundel County beginning Sunday, August 27. Crews will work each evening 8 p.m.-5 a.m. through Thursday, August 31. The work is weather permitting.

Starting 8 p.m. Sunday, crews will temporarily close the second lane of the two-lane ramp. Crews will remove damaged sections of pavement then pour, set, and cure new concrete. The lane will open to traffic once the concrete cures and pavement testing is completed.

Drivers should plan for additional travel time and consider using I-95, MD 10 (Arundel Expressway), MD 2 (Governor Ritchie Highway), MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway), or US 1 (Washington Boulevard) as alternate northbound routes.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Reliable Contracting Company Inc. of Gambrills, will use arrow boards, signs, cones, and barrels to safely guide drivers through the work zone. Customers who have questions may contact the District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.

The State Highway Administration understands temporary ramp and lane closures can be an inconvenience, but this work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system. Motorists are asked to reduce speeds approaching and while in active work zones.  Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
