Drivers on I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) Should Expect Overnight Lane Closures along Outer Loop Tonight, Inner Loop Thursday Night and Next Week (August 20-24)
(August 16, 2023) – Beginning tonight, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is installing shielding on the Windsor Mill Road bridge over I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) in Baltimore County.
Beginning at 7 p.m., a State Highway Administration contractor will install shielding on the Windsor Mill Road bridge to protect I-695 underneath the bridge in advance of a bridge deck repair project that should be starting by the end of August or early September. The shield will prohibit debris from falling on the road during the repair project. The bridge is located between MD 26 (Liberty Road) and MD 122 (Security Boulevard).
Drivers can expect single lane closures beginning at 7 p.m. tonight through 5 a.m. Thursday on southbound I-695 (outer loop) and Thursday night between 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. Friday on northbound I-695 (inner loop). Next week, single and double lane closures will be in effect on southbound and northbound I-695 Sunday through Thursday, with single lane closures at 7 p.m. and double lane closures at 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. the next morning.
The State Highway Administration understands temporary lane closures for bridge repairs can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain a reliable and safe transportation network. Drivers are asked to plan for extra travel time, stay alert, stay focused, look ahead for temporary lane closures and contractor personnel and equipment on I-695 underneath Windsor Mill Road.
In case of inclement weather, the bridge shielding installation work and lane closures will take place on the next possible weeknight. Allied Contractors, Inc. of Baltimore is performing the work.
Customers who have questions about this work may contact the State Highway Administration District 4 Office – Maintenance Section at 410-229-2300 or toll-free at 1-866-998-0367.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
