A Long-Term Right Lane Closure will be in Place on I-68 between Frostburg and Finzel; Drivers Should Plan Extra Travel Time

(August 9, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close the right lane on westbound I-68 (National Freeway) between Midlothian Road in Allegany County to MD 546 (Finzel Road) in Garrett County on Thursday, August 10. The lane closure will be in place for up to a month to remove the existing concrete pavement and is part of a resurfacing project on I-68. Once the concrete is removed, new pavement will be installed.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Keystone Lime Company, Inc. of Springs, PA will use concrete barrier to close the lane. All work will be performed behind the barrier wall.  The entire project should be complete December of 2023, weather permitting.

The State Highway Administration understands ramp closures associated with road construction may be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system.  Remember that motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Please look twice and save a life.
