Stimulus Funds Improvement Project for Heavily Traveled Road; Motorists Should Expect Delays
(September 15, 2009) – Last week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) began resurfacing westbound US 50 (Ocean Gateway) from East of Big Mill Pond to Linkwood Road in Dorchester County. This $1.2 million project is scheduled to be complete by late October, weather permitting.
SHA is patching and resurfacing the nearly five-mile section of US 50. Construction is taking place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as they may encounter single-lane closures on westbound US 50. SHA will use arrow boards, traffic cones and protection vehicles to ensure the safe mobility of both workers and drivers through the work zone. SHA encourages motorists to “Think Orange” when traveling through the work zone – obeying the warning devices and remaining alert.
This project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland. Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs. Follow the delivery of these projects at

SHA awarded this contract to American Paving Corporation of Eden. Citizens who have questions about this project or any other state-numbered roadway in Dorchester County should call SHA’s District 1 office at 410-677-4000 or toll free at 1-800-825-4742.
