Temporary Double Lane Closures on Northbound I-95 in effect Saturday Morning, July 22; Lane and Ramp Closures Scheduled for Week of July 23-28
(July 20, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has scheduled weekend, weeknight, and weekday ramp and lane closures within the I-95/I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange in the Arbutus area of southwestern Baltimore County between Saturday morning, July 22 and Friday afternoon, July 28.
The ramp and lane closures are required as part of the ongoing rehabilitation project for 10 bridges within the interchange. Learn more about the multi-bridge project here.
On Saturday, July 22, motorists can expect the following:
Early Morning Lane Closures
- Northbound I-95 at I-695: Double left-lane closures between 4 a.m.-10 a.m. Saturday, July 22.
Beginning Sunday night, July 23, motorists can expect the following:
Overnight Lane Closures
- Southbound I-95 at I-695: Overnight single-lane closures at 7 p.m., followed by double left-lane closures between 9 p.m.-5 a.m. the next day, Sunday through Thursday, July 23- 27.
- Northbound I-95 at I-695: Overnight single-lane closures at 7 p.m., followed by double left-lane closures between 9 p.m.-5 a.m. the next day, Sunday through Thursday, July 23- 27. Note: On Wednesday night, July 26, there also will be a triple-lane closure on northbound I-95 at I-695 between midnight and 5 a.m. Thursday, July 27 to move construction work zone barriers and set a new traffic pattern in place on northbound I-95.
Overnight Ramp Closures
- Ramp from eastbound I-695 (outer loop) to northbound I-95: Closure and detour overnight, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. the next day, Sunday through Thursday, July 23-27. Detour: Exit onto Hollins Ferry Road, go through interchange to westbound I-695 (inner loop) and then take westbound I-695 to northbound I-95.
- Ramp from northbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (inner loop): Closure and detour overnight, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. the next day, Sunday through Thursday, July 23-27. Detour: Exit onto Caton Avenue, go west on Caton Avenue, proceed to ramp to southbound I-95 and then take southbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (inner loop).
Daytime Lane Closures
- Sulphur Spring Road under I-95: Lane shifts and/or lane closures with flagging operations to control two-way traffic between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 24-28.
All work schedules are pending weather and other construction factors. Contractor Wagman Heavy Civil Inc. will perform the work and will use digital message boards, temporary signs, and barrels to safely guide drivers through the area. Learn more about the multi-bridge project here.
The State Highway Administration understands temporary and ramp closures can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain and improve the transportation system for all. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
