Project Requires Single-Lane Closures During Weekday Work Periods; MotoristsShould Expect Traffic Delays

(June 22, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project Monday, June 26, to resurface an approximately 1.5-mile section of westbound US 50 (Ocean Gateway) between Old Ocean Gateway and Big Mill Pond near Vienna in Dorchester County. The project is expected to be complete by the end of August, weather permitting.

Crews will work 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The work will require single-lane closures, and drivers should anticipate delays during work hours. Motorists will be guided safely through the work zone by cones, barrels and arrow boards. Motorcycles should use caution on uneven pavement during the project.

Hot asphalt may require up to two hours to cool before drivers and pedestrians can safely cross the new road surface. Contractor for the project is George & Lynch Inc., of Dover, Del.

The State Highway Administration understands road work can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system. To protect themselves and our work crews, drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
