Traffic Detoured for Installation of Concrete Curbing Along Right Side of the Exit
(June 2, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close and detour the eastbound I-68 (National Freeway) ramp to US 219 (Chestnut Ridge Road) (Exit 22) in Grantsville during daytime hours Monday, June 5, to Friday, June 9, weather permitting. The closure is necessary for crews to install curbing on the right side of the exit to effectively accommodate vehicles with long wheelbases.
Drivers can expect the temporary closure with a detour to be in place 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Eastbound I-68 motorists will be directed to continue past the exit and take Exit 24 (Lower New Germany Road) and return on westbound I-68 back to US 219 (exit 22). Chestnut Ridge Road will remain open during the roadwork.
Signs will be in place to assist drivers in navigating the detour. Contractor Excavating Associates of Hyndman, Pa., also will use detour signs, portable message signs, and arrow boards to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
The State Highway Administration understands lane closures and detours are inconvenient, but the work is needed to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, pay attention to reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
