Motorists Can Expect Daytime and Nighttime Single-Lane Closures

(March 29, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has started a project to improve more than 30 miles of US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) between US 340 and the Pennsylvania State line. The project, which started today, began on northbound US 15 north of Powell Road. The highway improvement project should be complete by the end of May, weather permitting.

The work includes patching pavement on US 15 at various locations that require rehabilitation, including bridge approaches. Motorists can expect single-lane closures during daytime and nighttime work. Northbound US 15 daytime lane closures will occur (north of Monocacy Boulevard) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Southbound US 15 lane closures will happen south of Monocacy Boulevard overnight between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience, but asks motorists to remain alert and slow down in work zones. Contractor Francis O. Day Inc., of Rockville, will use arrow boards, barrels and cones to safely guide motorists through the work zone.

As spring arrives, all motorists are urged to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Remember that motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Please look twice and save a life. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
