Motorists Should Expect Brief Traffic Stops, Temporary Lane Closures
(January 19, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will perform a shift of travel lanes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. this Friday, January 20, on MD 65 (Sharpsburg Pike) under the 1-70 Interchange in Hagerstown. Work will continue on Monday, January 23, weather permitting. The shift is part of the ongoing I-70 bridge replacement project over MD 65 and the CSX Railroad.
Crews will shift lanes to the right, allowing work to be performed on the left side of MD 65. Motorists will continue to have access to all travel lanes on MD 65 following the traffic shift. As the shift occurs, motorists should expect single-lane closures and brief stoppages, including on the I-70 ramp to northbound MD 65 (exit 29), prior to the work zone at the MD 65/Colonel H. K. Douglas Drive intersection through S. Potomac Street and Premium Outlets Boulevard. All work is weather permitting.
MDOT SHA contractor Concrete General Inc., of Gaithersburg, will use portable signs, barrels and cones to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should plan extra commuting time during this process.
MDOT SHA reminds motorists that when it’s snowy or icy, drivers must clear their entire vehicle off, not just the window surfaces. Snow on hoods and roofs can slightly melt during the day, then freeze on roads at night, creating a hazard to other drivers.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
