(January 3, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA), in collaboration with Montgomery County, will host a virtual public meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, to present alternatives and answer questions related to the MD 198 Burtonsville Improvement Project.

The project area, known as Segment D, extends from Old Columbia Pike to US 29A on MD 198 in Burtonsville. The project seeks to improve safety, connectivity and accessibility for all users, as well as ease congestion along this roadway segment. Segment D is part of a larger Corridor Improvement Study extending between MD 97 and I-95.

“Segment D along MD 198 is a busy commercial and mixed-use area,” said MDOT SHA Administrator Tim Smith. “Input from the community and businesses will assist us with the tools we need to design a network that will keep all users safe.”

MDOT SHA will seek environmental approvals to advance bicycle, pedestrian and roadway improvements in the detailed design phase. MDOT SHA, in collaboration with Montgomery County and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, will move forward with project planning using a Context Driven approach once funding becomes available.

A Microsoft Teams link for the January 10 meeting will be posted on the MD 198 Burtonsville Improvement Project Portal Page, at https://bit.ly/MDOTSHA-MD28-MD198. The public also may listen to the meeting by dialing 677-262-2962, ID #645 977 623. (Audio only).
