Project Funding Provided Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

(July 31, 2009) –Next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $1.8 million project to repair and resurface US 40 (Pulaski Highway) between MD 715 (Short Lane) and MD 132 (Bel Air Avenue) in Aberdeen.

Single lane closures along eastbound and westbound US 40 may occur weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  The project includes pavement repair, milling, resurfacing and installing new reflective pavement markers.  Contractor crews will begin work next week; weather permitting, the project will be complete late September.  The State’s contractor for the US 40 project is Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium.

This project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland.  Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs.  Follow the delivery of these projects at www.recovery.maryland.gov, which tracks every category of ARRA spending and provides contract-level details to the public in an effort to achieve new levels of government transparency and efficiency.

Citizens with questions or comments about highway improvements along US 40 or other State-numbered routes in Harford County may contact SHA’s District 4 Office at 1-866-998-0367 or 410-229-2360.  SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.  Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
