STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO RESURFACE NINE MILES OF ROADWAY IN HOWARD COUNTY

Stimulus Funds Include Resurfacing Seven Ramps at the US 29/Brokenland Parkway Interchange

(July 29, 2009) –The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) has begun a $4.6 million project to resurface seven ramps and approximately nine miles of roadway in Howard County.  SHA should complete the resurfacing contract in fall 2010, weather permitting.

SHA is resurfacing approximately 4.4 miles along MD 94 (Woodbine Road) between the Montgomery County Line and Cattail River Drive.  Projects are listed in the order they are anticipated to be completed, weather permitting:
• Seven ramps at the US 29/Brokenland Parkway interchange in Columbia;
• MD 97 (Roxbury Mills Road) between Union Chapel Road and the Montgomery County Line in Glenwood (4.5 miles); and
• US 29 (Columbia Pike) intersection with MD 99 ( Old Frederick Road) north of Ellicott City.

These sections will be resurfaced due to deteriorating pavement along these sections of US 29 and MD 97.  During the resurfacing, motorists should expect single-lane, off-peak closures.  Variable message signs, barrels, flagpersons and arrow boards will guide motorists through the project.  SHA awarded the contract to American Infrastructure-MD.

This project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland.  Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs.  Follow the delivery of these projects at www.recovery.maryland.gov, which tracks every category of ARRA spending and provides contract-level details to the public in an effort to achieve new levels of government transparency and efficiency.

Those who have questions about traffic operations along US 29, MD 99, MD 97, and MD 94 or other State numbered routes in Howard County, may call SHA’s District 7 Office at 301-624-8100 or toll free at1-800-635-5119.
