Construction Continues on $29 Million Project to Replace Three Bridges at the MD 151 (Sparrows Point Boulevard) / MD 151B (Wharf Road) Interchange in Baltimore County
(August 22, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will reopen part of the MD 151 (Sparrows Point Boulevard) / MD 151B (Wharf Road) interchange in southeastern Baltimore County on Wednesday, August 24, weather permitting, as construction continues on the
$29 million project to replace three bridges at the interchange serving Tradepoint Atlantic and nearby commercial and marina properties.
With the reopening of northbound Wharf Road between MD 151 and MD 158 (Bethlehem Boulevard), the following traffic patterns will be in effect starting Wednesday:
Northern Bridge – Wharf Road (MD 151B) over Warehouse Road and Railroad Line:
- The northbound side of the bridge will be open to traffic, and northbound Wharf Road will be open between MD 151 and MD 158.
- The southbound side of this bridge will remain closed for construction. Southbound Wharf Road traffic will be detoured to eastbound MD 158 and southbound MD 151, then back to Wharf Road (see map).
Middle Bridge – southbound Wharf Road left turn ramp to southbound MD 151 (over northbound Wharf Road):
- This ramp will remain closed for construction.
Southern Bridge – MD 151 over Wharf Road and Railroad Line:
- The bridge is open for two-way traffic, with lane closures and traffic pattern shifts as construction work continues.
- Existing ramp from northbound MD 151 to southbound Wharf Road is open for local traffic only.
- A temporary traffic signal on MD 151 allows left turns onto southbound Wharf Road.
MDOT SHA contractor The Six-M Company Inc. of Delta, Pa., is performing the work. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by summer 2024. For more details on the project, click
