Work Includes Upgrading Sidewalks to ADA Standards; Daytime Single-Lane Closures Expected During Construction.
(August 18, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is continuing its project to improve pedestrian access and safety along segments of MD 26 (Liberty Road) in Baltimore County, and is beginning work this week to upgrade facilities to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards on MD 26 from I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) to North Rolling Road.
Beginning Friday, August 19, MDOT SHA will reconstruct concrete sidewalks, sidewalk ramps, curbs, gutters and driveway aprons where necessary to meet ADA requirements and improve mobility for all MD 26 travelers.
Motorists should expect temporary single-lane closures along this segment of MD 26 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Mondays through Fridays. Overnight work will also take place 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday nights into Friday mornings. Work will continue through late fall, weather permitting.
MDOT SHA contractor Image Asphalt Maintenance, of Pasadena, will use electronic signs, cones and barrels to alert motorists and pedestrians of the work zone. During concrete work, sections of sidewalks will be temporarily closed to pedestrians, and signs will be posted alerting pedestrians of sidewalk closures and detours. MDOT SHA is nearing completion of sidewalk improvements on another segment of MD 26 this summer, from Jean Drive to Meadowdale Drive.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
