Motorists Should Expect Daytime Lane Closures Mondays Through Fridays Through July
July 13, 2022 – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin an intersection safety improvement project next week on US 40 at Day Road near Hagerstown.
Weather permitting, the project will begin Monday, July 18, and continue through the end of the month. Left lanes and the crossover in both directions of US 40 at Day Road will be closed during non-peak weekday hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, to allow crews to safely install a new raised median, intersection island and signage, as well as to perform excavation. Barrels and cones will be in place to close the lanes, and signs will direct motorists to the nearest crossover.
This work is part of a $497,000 areawide project to improve intersection capacity and provide congestion relief and enhanced safety at various locations in Washington County. MDOT SHA contractor C. William Hetzer, of Hagerstown, will perform the work.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
