Through April, Crews Will Work from MD 64 (Smithsburg Pike) to the Pennsylvania Line; Motorists Can Expect a Flagging Operation

(March 7, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a safety and resurfacing project on MD 418 (Ringgold Pike) in Washington County on Wednesday, March 9. Crews will work daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on the section of the roadway between MD 64 (Smithsburg Pike) and the Pennsylvania line. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete in early April.

As part of the project, crews will patch, grind, resurface and install new pavement markings on MD 418. This resurfacing work is necessary to provide a safe and durable riding surface and extend the life of the roadway.

During work hours, crews will use a flagging operation in both directions of MD 418 to safely guide motorists through the work zone. There will be cones and barrels to alert motorists to the construction. MDOT SHA contractor C. William Hetzer Inc. of Hagerstown, will perform the work.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
