Overnight Shoulder and Single-Lane Closures and Partial Ramp Shifts/Closures Expected Weeknights Through March 18

(March 3, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin overnight work Sunday, March 6, on pavement testing and drilling at the I-95/I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange in the Arbutus area of Baltimore County. Over the next two weeks, motorists can expect overnight shoulder, single-lane and partial ramp closures in both directions of I-95/I-695 within the interchange area. Crews will work overnight, between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m., Sunday through Thursday until expected completion March 18.

This work is part of MDOT SHA’s ongoing testing and evaluation of pavement conditions on interstate highways. The lane closures will allow testing vehicles, mobile drilling equipment and a work zone safety trailer to move from spot to spot to facilitate soil borings in the shoulders.

Operations will start Sunday evening with closure of the right shoulder and single right lane of southbound I-95 from the exit to northbound I-695 and continuing to approximately the area of the bridge over Oregon Avenue. Over the two-week period on I-95 northbound or southbound, the right or left shoulders along with one adjacent travel lane will be closed to traffic overnight. There also will be overnight operations within partial ramp closures on I-95/I-695 interchange ramps, with traffic shifted to the opposite side of the ramp testing area.

Motorists are asked to please plan ahead for extra travel time and reduce speed in the vicinity of the interchange work zone. In case of inclement weather, testing operations will take place on subsequent weeknights until the operation is complete.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
