Bridge Crossing near Light Rail Tracks in Lutherville to be Closed on Weekends  to Expedite Summer Bridge Work Beginning 9 p.m. Friday, June 10
(July 6, 2009) – On Friday, July 10, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning a $700,000 project to replace the bridge carrying Seminary Avenue (MD 131) over a tributary of the Roland Run in Lutherville, Baltimore County.
SHA will replace the two-lane bridge, built in 1900, with a new two-lane bridge this summer.  To expedite construction work, the bridge will be closed on four to six consecutive weekends, depending on weather conditions.  Beginning this Friday the bridge, located between Railroad Avenue and Greenspring Drive, will be closed on the weekends between 9 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.
SHA will provide a signed detour route for traffic along Seminary Avenue.  During construction, businesses and their access will remain open and no residential driveways will be closed.  Through travelers on Seminary Avenue will be detoured using Falls Road (MD 25), I-695, the I-695/Charles Street interchange and Bellona Avenue.
SHA and the contractor, PDI Sheetz of Linthicum, encourage local residents and travelers to plan ahead for detours and extra travel time on weekends.  Weather permitting, the project will be complete late August.  For more information about the bridge replacement project, citizens may contact SHA’s Office of Structures by phone at 410-545-8322 or SHA’s District Four Office – Construction Division by phone at 410-229-2420, toll free at 1-866-998-0367, or by e-mail at SHADistrict4@sha.state.md.us.
During the next several months, there could be more than 350 highway work zones throughout Maryland. Also, work zones are not only large construction projects, but include smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
