​New Overhead Sign Will Display Emergency Alerts to Motorists

(February 24, 2022) -- The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will install a new overhead electronic sign for emergency alerts on northbound I-95 between MD 32 and MD 175 in Howard County. The overnight work will start at 10 p.m. Monday, February 28, and will be complete by 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 1.    

Crews will start by closing two left lanes on northbound I-95. They will then install the new message sign and cables. The sign will be activated on a later date after testing and MDOT SHA approval.
The operation will require closing the eastbound MD 32 exit ramp to northbound I-95. Motorists will be detoured to US 1 and westbound MD 32 to access northbound I-95.   

MDOT SHA will use electronic signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the work zone and lane closures.   

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
