BGE Contractor Crews to Perform Maintenance on Underground Cables
(February 11, 2021) – A new, temporary traffic pattern will be in place starting next week on MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) in Owings Mills to allow a contractor with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) to perform preventative maintenance on underground transmission cables. The work is part of BGE’s multi-year Reisterstown Road Electric Reliability Upgrade program.
Starting at 9 p.m. Monday, February 14, BGE contractor crews will work on a segment of northbound Reisterstown Road on a 24-hour/7-day-a-week schedule for approximately 90 days, weather permitting. During the work, BGE’s contractor will shift the northbound lanes of MD 140 and alter traffic patterns in the work zone, which is in the vicinity of Garrison View Road and Olive Lane. This temporary traffic pattern change is necessary to create a safe work zone for crews and area travelers.
MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) will remain open in each direction, and driveway access to businesses will remain open, with the following temporary alterations:
-
BGE will maintain all through lanes along southbound MD 140 through the work zone.
- BGE will maintain two through lanes and the left turn lane along northbound MD 140.
- Right turns in and out of properties on Olive Lane will be maintained throughout construction.
- Left turns in and out of Olive Lane and the businesses directly south of Olive Lane will be restricted.
- The MDOT MTA bus stop along northbound MD 140 between Garrison View Road and Olive Lane will be closed. Alternate bus stops for northbound MD 140 Bus Routes 89 and 92 are located at the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Saint Thomas Lane, near side and Reisterstown Road and Garrison Forest School.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration advises travelers to allow extra travel time along Reisterstown Road within the BGE work zone. The work is not an MDOT SHA project, though MDOT SHA is assisting BGE in raising public awareness.
BGE customers with questions may contact BGE’s project outreach team: Ms. Joy Hamilton at 240-583-7925 or Ms. Lineta Duren at 410-618-0102, or email
BGEProject@bge.com and reference the “Reisterstown Road Electric Reliability Upgrade Site 10”. A member of the BGE project team will respond.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for Maryland State Police and roadside assistance.
