Upcoming Weekend Work Includes Connecting New Northbound MD 85 Ramp to Northbound I-270
(October 21, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) recently completed construction of a new ramp for northbound MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) and will connect the ramp to northbound I-270 during weekend work starting Friday night, October 22. The ramp connection requires leveling work and application of new asphalt to the ramp to ensure an even roadway surface on the northbound MD 85 ramp merging onto northbound I-270.
To safely perform the work, MDOT SHA will close the existing northbound MD 85 exit ramp to northbound I-270 at 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, October 25. Motorists on northbound MD 85 traveling to northbound I-270 will be detoured to westbound I-70 to take exit 53B to northbound US 15.
MDOT SHA will also close the left lane of the southbound MD 85 ramp to northbound I-270 to complete the required leveling work. The left lane will be closed during the same time, 9 p.m. Friday, October 22, to 5 a.m. Monday, October 25.
This work is part of MDOT SHA’s $87.7 million I-270/MD 85 interchange project to improve safety and reduce congestion. The project replaced two I-270 bridges and will widen MD 85 by adding a new travel lane in both directions between Spectrum Drive and Crestwood Boulevard.
