(September 29, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is advising motorists to anticipate heavy traffic on several state roads over the next several weekends around the annual Maryland Renaissance Festival complex on Crownsville Road in Anne Arundel County. The event continues 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October 24.
Routes expected to be affected include I-97, MD 178 (Generals Highway) and MD 450 (Defense Highway), as well as local roadways in the region. MDOT SHA is assisting Anne Arundel County and the Maryland Renaissance Festival organizers by making available overhead and portable variable message signs. When the event sells out and cannot accommodate additional festival patrons, the MDOT SHA Statewide Operations Center will be notified, and dynamic message signs will be activated to provide real-time information to motorists planning attend the event.
