(June 25, 2021) – Starting at 7 p.m. Sunday night, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will be installing traffic-counting and roadway-safety devices on the southwest outer loop of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) in the Catonsville area of Baltimore County. Crews will be working on both the Inner and Outer Loops of I-695 between US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) and MD 144 overnight, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., through the morning of Friday, July 2.

The traffic-counting devices will allow MDOT SHA to monitor traffic flow and volumes. Crews will also install seals on bridge deck joints, reflective pavement lane markers and rumble strips in the new pavement along the shoulders of I-695.

Motorists can expect the following lane closures:

I-695 Outer Loop:

  • Sunday, June 27, through Tuesday, June 29: Crews will install traffic counters and bridge deck seals. They will close one lane at 7 p.m. and one or two more lanes after 10 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 30 and Thursday, July 1: Crews will install raised reflective pavement lane markers and rumble strips. They will close one lane at 7 p.m. and one or two more lanes after 10 p.m.

I-695 Inner Loop:

  • Sunday, June 27, through Thursday, July 1: Crews will install raised reflective lane markers, rumble strips and new bridge deck joint seals. They will close one lane at 7 p.m. and one or two more lanes after 10 p.m.

The work is part of MDOT SHA’s project to widen this section of I-695. Learn more about the project HERE.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Stranded motorists can dial #77 or 911 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
