***TRAFFIC ALERT*** MDOT SHA BEGINS RECONSTRUCTION OF CLARKE BOULEVARD AT US 1 (WASHINGTON BOULEVARD) IN HALETHORPE

​(June 10, 2021) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has begun reconstruction of the US 1 (Washington Boulevard) intersection at Clarke Boulevard in the Halethorpe area of Baltimore County. The work, originally set for Wednesday, June 9, began today. the Clarke Boulevard exit is now closed. The work is part of MDOT SHA’s $26-million project to replace the US 1 bridge over CSX Transportation rail lines.   

On Thursday, June 10, crews implemented a 24-hour, seven day a week closure and detour of the southern end of Clarke Boulevard at US 1. The Clarke Boulevard detour will be in effect for one year. ​

Local residents on Clarke Boulevard and side streets in Wynnewood, Relay and Huntsmoor South communities will use the following posted detour route to and from US 1:

  1. Selford Road.   
  2. Francis Avenue.   
  3. Oregon / Carville Avenue.   
  4. Tom Day Boulevard.   
  5. US 1 (Southwestern Blvd.)

US 1 will remain open to all traffic with temporary lane closures and flagging operations during off-peak travel hours. The intersection reconstruction work is expected to be complete by late spring 2022.

MDOT SHA contractor, Lane Construction, Inc. of Glen Burnie, is performing the work. Learn more about the bridge replacement project HERE.  The entire project is expected to be complete fall 2022.
