(June 3, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway (MDOT SHA) is resurfacing the I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) bridges over Suitland Road in Upper Marlboro, Prince George’s County. Work began Tuesday, June 1, and is part of a project replacing Capital Beltway bridges. MDOT SHA expects to complete the project this summer.
Crews are removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt and adding line striping. Motorists can expect the following lane closures:
- Single-lane closures weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Multiple-lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
- Additional lane closures during off-peak hours as needed
Built in 1963, the original bridges are safe for travel; however, have reached the end of their useful service life. Project information can be found HERE.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
