(April 14, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will pour a new concrete bridge deck onto the MD 56 (Big Pool Road) bridge over I-70 (Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway) in Washington County tomorrow, April 15, and Monday, April 19. Each day, the work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., weather permitting.
While the deck pour is underway, MD 56 will be closed in both directions over I-70 and motorists will follow a posted detour. Portable message signs, barrels and “road closed” signs will be in place. MDOT SHA contractor Concrete General, Inc of Gaithersburg, will be performing the work.
The work is part of MDOT SHA’s MD 56 bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge is safe for travel, and MDOT SHA is proactively making these repairs to extend its useful service life. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2021. Learn more about it HERE.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
