(December 21, 2020) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will open new travel lanes on MD 32 (Patuxent Freeway) in the Dayton area of Howard County. The work
scheduled for Monday, December 21 has been postponed a day due to heavy fog.
Starting at 7 a.m., crews will move all MD 32 traffic – in the area between Linden Church Road and the MDOT SHA Dayton shop on MD 32 (located at 4401 Patuxent Freeway/MD 32) – to the newly completed lanes. This shift will give construction crews safer access to work in the center of MD 32.
The new traffic pattern will stay in effect on this one-mile stretch for approximately one year as construction crews install new stormwater structures underneath MD 32. MDOT SHA’s contractor,
Wagman Inc. of York, PA, will use electronic message boards, signs, cones and barrels to alert motorists and guide them through the work zone.
The traffic shift is part of the $127 million MD 32 Phase II widening project which began in June 2019 and is expected to be complete in 2022. The project will construct an additional travel lane in both directions of MD 32 between Linden Church Road and the I-70 ramps. Learn more about the project HERE.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
