(November 12, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is improving the driving surface of the MD 56 (Big Pool Road) bridge over I-70 (Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway) starting November 13.
From 7:00 a.m. through 4 p.m. tomorrow, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, MDOT SHA crews will close MD 56 so they can pour a new concrete deck onto the bridge. This surface improvement is part of the $3.3 million bridge rehabilitation project expected to be complete by September 2021. Learn more about the project HERE.
MDOT SHA contractor Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg will be conducting the bridge pour. Motorists will be guided through the following detour:
-
MD 56 will be closed at the bridge over I-70
- MD 56 northbound traffic will be detoured onto 1-70 east to MD 68 to I-70 west
- MD 56 southbound traffic detoured onto I-70 west to MD 615 to I-70 east
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
