MD 140 sign
(January 31, 2020) –Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) will
perform preventative maintenance starting Monday on underground transmission
cables located along a section of southbound MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) south of
the Old Court Road intersection in Pikesville.
MDOT SHA has permitted BGE to detour all left turn traffic movements on
Reisterstown Road at Old Court Road and close one northbound travel lane along
Reisterstown Road between north of McHenry Avenue and Old Court Road. Crews will
shift travel lanes along this section of Reisterstown Road to create a work zone
on southbound Reisterstown Road. The shift will allow one northbound and two
southbound travel lanes to remain open during the work.
The work will begin at 9 p.m. Monday Feb. 3 and continue with a 24-hour
/7-day schedule through late April. The work is part of BGE’s Reisterstown Road
Electric Reliability Upgrade.
Additionally, BGE will temporarily close front driveways to several
businesses in the work area.  Motorists will be directed to use Old Court Road
or McHenry Avenue to access the businesses’ rear driveways on Bedford Road. The
exit for St. Mark’s Church will be closed and the entrance driveway will carry
two-way traffic. The left turn movement from northbound Reisterstown Road to
westbound McHenry Avenue is currently prohibited between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. but
will be temporarily open 24 hours a day for the duration of the BGE work.
Pedestrian access along southbound Reisterstown Road will be maintained during
BGE work.
MDOT Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will temporarily
discontinue three bus stops in the vicinity of the work zone and has posted
rider notices instructing transit users where to catch the bus. Transit
customers may contact MDOT MTA at (410)-539-5000 or toll free: 1-866-RIDE-MTA
(1-866-743-3682).
MDOT SHA encourages all travelers to plan for extra travel time on
southbound Reisterstown Road south of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) in the vicinity
of the Old Court Road and McHenry Avenue intersections. Approximately 31,000
vehicles travel along this section of Reisterstown Road each day.
Area business owners and residents with questions about the project can
contact the BGE project outreach team at 443-603-3730, BGE customer service at
1-800-685-0123 or by email at [email protected]. When contacting BGE
about this project, please refer to the Reisterstown Road Electric Reliability
Upgrade and a member of the BGE project team will respond.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for
motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving
and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes.
Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
