(December 15, 2019) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is preparing for a wintry mix that could impact much of the state overnight and into Monday. Snow accumulation is expected to start in Western Maryland, along with sections of Frederick, Montgomery, Carroll and Baltimore counties. The rest of the state could see rain or freezing rain, impacting the Monday morning commute.

MDOT SHA crews have pretreated roadways with brine, an anti-icing solution, and will continue to deploy resources late tonight and throughout the morning tomorrow. Motorists are encouraged to delay travel if possible and to exercise extreme caution on elevated surfaces such as ramps, bridges and overpasses, which freeze first.

Customers are encouraged to view the Statewide Transportation Operations Resources Map (STORM) web application. They can track MDOT SHA winter operations in real-time with a 30-minute history. For access to MDOT SHA winter fact sheets and other valuable information, click here.

Motorists are urged to monitor the weather conditions as forecasts often change throughout the day, and visit md511.maryland.gov for real-time travel alerts and conditions. Follow MDOT SHA on Twitter @MDSHA and “like” us on Facebook.
