(December 6, 2019) – On Monday morning, December 9, weather
permitting, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway
Administration (MDOT SHA) will activate a new full-color traffic signal at the
intersection of US 1 (Belair Rd.) and Klausmier Road in Baltimore County.
MDOT SHA recently conducted a traffic study at this intersection in
response to community concerns about safety and congestion at the intersection;
the study results showed a new traffic signal is warranted at the intersection.
The traffic signal will enhance traffic operations and safety at this
location.
MDOT SHA has already placed advisory signs on US 1 alerting motorists
to the new traffic signal, which is in a red/yellow temporary flashing mode
until Monday morning.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, Thompson Electric of Aberdeen, is performing the
signal installation work, which also includes new reflective pavement markings
at the intersection. The cost of the project is approximately $131,000.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for
motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving
and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes.
Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
