Temporary Weekend Closure and Detour Starts Tonight, October 18
(October 18, 2019) – Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close and detour
MD 253 (Mayo Road) between Shore Drive and MD 214 (Central Avenue) in Edgewater. The weekend closure is necessary for crews to replace an aging culvert. All lanes will open by 5 a.m. Monday, October 21.
Motorists will be detoured using Stepneys Lane or MD 2 (Solomons Island Road) to MD 214.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, A.J. Romano Construction, Inc. of Upper Marlboro, will use construction barrels and signs to guide motorists through the work zone. Approximately 21,000 vehicles per day use this section of Mayo Road, so motorists should allow extra drive time this weekend.
Customers who have questions may contact the MDOT SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5803.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
