Motorists Urged to Keep Extra Vigilant for Pedestrians and Allow for Extra Commuting Time

(Sept. 6, 2019) -- The annual National Folk Festival kicks off in downtown Salisbury this weekend and will attract a significant amount of people Friday, Sept. 6, through Sunday, Sept. 8. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will offer support by positioning digital message signs in key areas alerting motorists about festival traffic and parking areas.

MDOT SHA routes in the area, including US 50/13 (Salisbury Boulevard), US 13 Business (S. Salisbury Boulevard) and US 50 Business (W. Salisbury Boulevard) will experience higher than normal traffic volumes. Motorists are urged to plan according if traveling in Salisbury this weekend.

MDOT SHA is suspending non-emergency lane closures in the Salisbury vicinity through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, and is adding additional patrols to key locations to help expedite lane openings following disabled vehicles, crashes or debris in the roadways near the festival.

Satellite parking will be available at the Wicomico Civic Center, 500 Glen Avenue, Salisbury, and free shuttle buses will be available every 10 minutes. For additional commuting options, please click here.
