Residents, Travelers Advised to Watch for Temporary Lane Closures Along US 1 Between Mount Vista Road and MD 152 (Mountain Road)

(April 16, 2008) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is moving forward on a project to improve more than four miles along US 1 (Belair Road) between north of Mount Vista Road in Baltimore County and MD 152 (Mountain Road) in Harford County.

SHA’s $2.3 million project includes roadway grinding, repair and resurfacing; construction of new sections of curb, gutter and sidewalk; storm drainage system improvements; tree work and landscaping; installation of sections of new traffic barrier (guardrail), pavement markings and replacement of underground traffic detectors. Highway construction work is beginning this month and will continue through the summer as weather permits. During construction, daytime single lane closures may occur along US 1 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday – Thursday and between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday. Nighttime single lane closures also may occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday – Thursday. The State’s contractor for the US 1 project is American Infrastructure, Inc. of Fallston, Md. Weather permitting, the project will be complete fall 2008.

SHA advises motorists to plan for extra driving time along US 1 and reminds motorists to buckle up, stay alert for lane closures, and to use caution while driving through the highway work zone. For more information about the US 1 project, citizens may call SHA’s project field office in Fallston at 410-877-1588 or SHA’s District Four Office at 410-321-2800 or toll-free at 1-800-962-3077.
