SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY AT THE US 40 ALTERNATE / MIDDLETOWN PARKWAY INTERSECTION THIS WEEK
Brief Closure Scheduled at US 40 Alternate / Schoolhouse Drive Intersection on Wed. May 24
(May 22, 2018) –This week, Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will activate pedestrian safety signals at the US 40 Alternate and Middletown Parkway Intersection. Motorists can expect the following traffic changes:
Wednesday, May 23: MDOT SHA will activate the audible and countdown pedestrian signals (APS/CPS) at the Middletown Parkway intersection. This upgrade will enhance safety and by meeting current standards for pedestrians and cyclists.
Thursday, May 24: Construction crews will close the US 40 Alternate / Schoolhouse Drive intersection between 9 a.m. and 12 Noon to allow crews to safely complete traffic improvements.
Drivers will be directed to use a local detour from US 40 Alternate, to Cone Branch Drive to North Church Street and then onto East Green Street. Private driveways within this closure area will also have restricted access to US 40 Alternate and will be directed by contractor personnel.
Following this work, this intersection will have new traffic detection equipment that will help with traffic flow through this intersection. This work is part of the Middletown Streetscape project, scheduled for completion in spring 2019.
