Nighttime Paving to Start Wednesday, May 16; Motorists Should Plan for Lane Closures
(May 11, 2018) – On Wednesday, May 16, The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to improve pavement at the westbound MD 32/Canine Road/Samford Road intersection in Fort Meade. Motorists can expect lane closures on westbound MD 32 at the ramp to Canine Road/Samford Road Sundays through Thursdays between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Upon completion of the MD 32/ Canine Road/Samford Road intersection, crews will move to Severn and resurface MD 170 (Telegraph Road) between MD 174 (Donaldson Avenue) and Old Donaldson Avenue and, in Pasadena, MD 177 (Mountain Road) between Lake Shore Drive and Pinehurst Road. Motorists can expect single lane closures Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, Slurry Pavers of Richmond, VA, will use variable signs to guide motorists through the work zone. These projects are part of a larger, $1.9 million paving project and should be complete by early summer.
While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
