Motorists Should Expect Daytime and Nighttime Lane Closures
In addition to patching, paving and restriping nearly two miles of MD 201, crews will also resurface MD 459 (Columbia Park Road/Tuxedo Road) between the US 50 (John Hanson Highway) to MD 201. Other work includes repairing and cleaning drainage pipes and inlets, replacing concrete curb and gutters and repairing/replacing guardrail.
Motorists can expect single lane closures on MD 201 and MD 459 Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Fort Meyer Construction of Washington D.C. is permitted to close two lanes and ramps Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
These sections of MD 201 and MD 459 are heavily travelled routes between Maryland and the District of Columbia. Nearly 165,000 vehicles travel this section of MD 201 daily, while MD 459 has an average daily traffic volume of 7,000 vehicles. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time during construction hours.
Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
