One-Mile Section of MD 277 to be Resurfaced Beginning August 6th; Project to Last Approximately One Week; Motorists Should Expect Delays

(July 29, 2008) – Beginning Wednesday, August 6, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a one week resurfacing project along MD 277 (Elk Mills Road) in northeastern Cecil County.

The $200,000 project will patch and resurface more than one mile of east and westbound MD 277 (Elk Mills Road) between MD 316 (Appleton Road) and Brewster Road in Elk Mills.

Temporary single-lane closures are expected between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. until the project is complete. Variable message signs, cones, barrels and flagpersons will guide motorists through the work zone. Weather permitting, all work should be complete by August 15. SHA awarded the contract to Kinsley Construction, Inc. of Timonium.

During the next several months, when warmer temperatures dominate, work zones will be an increasingly familiar sight along state and local roadways. On any one day, there could be more than 350 work zones. Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.

When entering a work zone, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices. Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected. Choose to make work zone safety your business at choosesafetyforlife.com.
