Motorists Should Expect Daytime Lane Closures on MD 23 Between High Point Road and MD 165

(August 30, 2016) – To provide a smoother ride for thousands of motorists, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will improve pavement on nearly three miles of MD 23 (East-West Highway) in Harford County beginning Friday, September 2.

SHA’s contractor for the East-West Highway project, Allan Myers – MD, Inc. of Fallston will repair and resurface pavement on East-West Highway between High Point Road and MD 165 (Baldwin Mill Road).  There will be single-lane closures with flagging operations Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  If necessary, crews may also work on Saturday between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Approximately 12,000 vehicles use this section of East-West Highway each day, so drivers should plan ahead for extra travel time during daytime highway maintenance work.  Weather permitting, the $1.3 million highway maintenance project will be complete late fall 2016.

SHA advises motorists that the contractor also is improving pavement on MD 165 (Baldwin Mill Road) between MD 152 (Fallston Road) and MD 23 (East-West Highway) on weekdays and Saturdays.  This 3.3 mile, $1 million project began early August and will be complete fall 2016.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

Maryland drivers can know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including highway construction and maintenance work zones and lane closures.
