SHA Opens Bridge Prior To Start of 2016/2017 School Year

 

(August 22, 2016) – Last Saturday, August 20, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) reopened the MD 77 (Rocky Ridge Road) Bridge over the Monocacy River.  SHA closed the bridge to traffic on June 21 to replace the bridge deck (driving surface).

 

“This is a great example of the amount of work that can be accomplished by closing and detouring traffic instead of performing the work in multiple phases,” said SHA District Engineer Mark Crampton.  “We appreciate neighbors and drivers patience as we continue work on the project for the next few months.”

 

Although the bridge is open to traffic, a flagging operation will be used as crews complete final stages of the project. Weather permitting, the project is scheduled to be complete late this year.

 

The project includes replacing the deteriorated concrete bridge deck (riding surface) of the bridge, repairing concrete supports, cleaning and painting the structural steel, and paving the roadway approaches. For more information about the project click here.
